What the questions cover

The 1000 questions are organized around the same four Client Needs categories that structure the actual NCLEX-PN test plan, so practicing here mirrors the shape of the real exam rather than testing random trivia.

Safe and Effective Care Environment

Care coordination, infection control, safety, and following the established plan of care.

Health Promotion and Maintenance

Growth and development, disease prevention, and health screening across the lifespan.

Psychosocial Integrity

Coping, mental health concepts, and supporting patients through stress, grief, and crisis.

Physiological Integrity

Basic care and comfort, pharmacology, reducing risk potential, and physiological adaptation.

NCLEX-PN vs. NCLEX-RN: what's different

Both exams share the same computer-adaptive format and the same four Client Needs categories, so the structure will look familiar if you've seen NCLEX-RN material. The difference is scope: the NCLEX-PN tests the practice level of a licensed practical or vocational nurse, which leans more heavily on basic care and comfort, following an established plan of care, and direct hands-on patient care. It puts less weight on the independent clinical decision-making, delegation, and care-coordination questions that show up more often on the RN exam.

Under the current NCLEX-PN test plan, the exam is computer-adaptive with a minimum of 85 questions and a maximum of 150, and a 5-hour time limit — the exam ends as soon as the scoring algorithm is 95% confident in a pass or fail determination, so the number of questions you personally receive isn't itself a sign of how you did.

Why sign-in is required

The question bank itself is completely free, but taking the tests requires a free account so your progress and results can be tracked as you work through the material. That account requirement is also why the test content isn't crawlable or indexable — this landing page exists so the tests can be found and described, with the actual questions available once you sign in.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are in the NCLEX-PN Free Tests?

1000 questions, covering all four Client Needs categories on the NCLEX-PN test plan: Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity.

Is the NCLEX-PN test bank really free?

Yes. All 1000 questions are free to access. A free account is required to take the tests, since that's what lets progress and results be tracked, but there's no cost to use the question bank.

How is the NCLEX-PN different from the NCLEX-RN?

Both exams use the same computer-adaptive format and are built around the same four Client Needs categories, but the NCLEX-PN tests the scope of practice for a licensed practical or vocational nurse, which is narrower than an RN's. Questions on the PN exam lean more heavily toward direct patient care, basic care and comfort, and following an established plan of care, with less emphasis on independent clinical decision-making and care coordination.

How many questions will I actually get on the real NCLEX-PN exam?

The NCLEX-PN is computer-adaptive, so the number varies by candidate. Under the current test plan it ranges from a minimum of 85 to a maximum of 150 items, with the exam ending as soon as the algorithm is 95% confident in a pass or fail determination, within a 5-hour time limit.

What's the best way to use 1000 practice questions?

Work through them in focused blocks rather than one long marathon session, and read the rationale for every question — including the ones you got right — so you're reinforcing the reasoning, not just the answer. Circling back to categories where you're missing questions is more useful than plowing straight through all 1000 once.
